Social media and the travel industry get along very well. While on holiday, more and more people share their photos and videos on social networks. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are becoming the main source for holiday makers to share and find inspiration for their trips. Traveller engagement has become a hot topic and companies can easily jump on board.

Together with Schiphol Airport we developed a good example of social media travel and visitor engagement. Schiphol is the biggest airport in the Netherlands, located close to Amsterdam, and one of the biggest in Europe. In December 2016, we turned Schiphol into a social media airport when we launched the campaign ‘Schipholidays’.
Waiting travellers were able to send their loved ones holiday greetings on social media with the hashtag #schipholidays. The messages were then featured on big Snipperwall screens around the airport. The campaign was a huge success and waiting around the airport became a lot less boring.
